BRIEF ANALYSIS ABOUT THE COMPOSITIONS OF
SHREEMANTA SHANKARDEV
All the scriptures of Hindu religion or Sanaatan religion have been divided into two large sections & these are (a) Aagam scriptures and (b) Nigam scriptures.
(a) Aagam scriptures – Aagam scriptures prescribe the idol worship, worship of different small gods and goddesses, sacrifice, untouchability, casteism etc. Again in aagam scripture there are rules and regulations for idol worship, and Brahmaa, Vishnu, Shiva, Doorga, Kaalee etc are worshipped in the form of idols. It is mentioned in Kaalika-puraan and yoginee-tantra that blood, meat and wine are the essential items in worship of Doorgaa and Kaalee.
(b) Nigam scriptures – The doctrine of Nigam scriptures is that the supreme soul is formless and the cause of creation, nurture and destruction of the universe is the supreme soul. The scripture Geeta, Mahaabhaagavat Puraan, Padma Puraan, Upanishad are the nigam scriptures and these scriptures acknowledge that Shree Krishna, the son of Devakee, is the human form of the supreme soul. Shreemanta Shankardev prohibited the performance of the doctrines of aagam scriptures and he declared that the doctrines of aagam scriptures are only for the unwise people. He stated that if we become devoted to Lord Krishna, then the conscience will be uncovered in a spontaneous way and ultimately the unwise people will also follow by heart the doctrine of nigam scriptures. Thereforé, Mahaapurush Shankardev stated the doctrine of “Krishnastu Bhagavaan Svayam” and his all the compositions are centered on devotion to Krishna (Krishna Bhakti centered).
