The scripture Gunamaalaa contains approximately one thousand lines and this scripture comes under prayer oriented lyrical-poem. Every line of both ghoshaa and pad has two syllables. Shankardev composed each syllable with six numbers of alphabets. The last alphabet of first and second syllable of each line are the same. Again it is astonishing that the last alphabet of the first and second line is also the same. Shankardev composed the scripture Gunamaalaa in “Kusum-Maalaa” rhythm.
The Brahmin scholars planned to underestimate the glory of Shankardev at the royal court of Naranaaraayan, the king of Koch Behar. They requested the king that shankardev should kill an elephant & it should be put within the small cylindrical bamboo and should be brought to the royal court. After that according to the desire expressed by the king, Shreemanta Shankardev composed the scripture Gunamaalaa within a single night and next day he brought the scripture within the fist & recited in the royal court. The scripture “Gunamaalaa’ is also known as the miniature form of Shreemadbhaagavat Mahapuran.

Dr. Mahendra Boraa, the specialist on literature, mentioned that Shankardev established the sanskrit rhythm in new form and he invented certain rhythm (Chhanda) by himself. Shankardev composed Gunamaalaa in Kusum-maalaa rhythm. He used the rhythm Hangsamaalaa in certain Bargeets and in the description of war between Indra & Bali he used rhythm Jhamak.
