FOURTEENTH CHAPTER
OPINIONS OF DIFFERENT LEARNED PERSONALITIES ABOUT
JAGAT GURU SHREEMANTA SHANKARDEV

1) Shreemants Shankardev is as omniscient as Kalpataru
for the devotees to God;
None none none is our great preceptor
except Shankardev (375)
(From Naamghoshaa composed by Mahaapurush Maadhavdev in old Asameeyaa language. It has been translated by Dr. Paraag Bhooyaan, author of the book ‘The nectar doctrines of Jagat Guru Shreemants Shankardev)
N.B. – Kalpataru – It means the divine tree from which we can have all desired things. Here Shankardev has been compared with Kalpataru.
2)

“শুনা সভাসদ হেৰা মোহোৰ বচন৷
শঙ্কৰদেৱত মই পশিলো শৰণ৷৷
উৰ্দ্ধবাহু কৰি হেৰা কৰো অঙ্গীকাৰ৷
শঙ্কৰত পৰে গুৰু নাহিকে আমাৰ৷৷”


It can be translate into English in the following way –
“O’ the people present, listen to me;
I have taken refuge in Shankardev.
I do promise with my hands up;
Non is our preceptor (Guru) but Shankardev.”
(Mahendra Kandali the school teacher of Shankardev took refuge in Shankardev after seeing the drama chinnayaatra.)
3) “Shreemanta Shankardev said with love that
listening & singing the glory of God
is the main, Know it clearly.
The Guru Shankardev said this to us;
and there is no other easy path to follow but this.”
(It is the saying of Shree Shree Damodordev and is described in Shree Shree Bangsheegopal Charit)
4)

त्रिभूवन वन्दन देवकी नन्दन
जो हरि मारल कंस।
जगजन तारण देव नारायण
शंकर ताकेरि अंश।।
(महापुरुष माधवदेव ने गुरु भटिमा की श्रीमन्त शंकरदेव स्तुति में एैसे लिखा था।

It can be translated into english in following way –
“ShareeKrishna the son of devakee
is prayed by all in the Universe;
and Krishna Himself is the God who
put an end to Kangsa.
The Krishna is the cause of giving
salvation to all creatures;
and Shankardev is the incarnation of Shree Krishna.”
